A healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy diet. Eating more fruits, vegetables, and seeds will make you feel and look better, because they are loaded with nutritional ingredients. Here are the Australian superfoods considered to be the new ''food group'' of nowadays that will boost your health to the next level.
1.Goji berries come from a bush native to China and are bright orange-red in colour. Goji berries contain a large amount of polysaccharides which act as antioxidants known to improve the immune system. Scientists also proved that goji berries promote levels of Human Growth Hormone in humans.
2.Kale has the most nutrients out of all the leafy green plants. It belongs to cabbage family and is known to lower the cholesterol levels, and is good for detoxification. It is loaded with phosphorus, potassium, manganese, iron, fibers and omega 3 fats.
3.Chia seeds are very good for strengthening your bones (the word ''Chia'' means strength in Mayan language) as they are full of magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus. Their natural colour is black or white (it shouldn't be brown, this means they were not matured properly). So when buying chia seeds, choose wisely.
4.Avocado is one of my favourite fruits. The myth says it is unhealthy, because it contains a lot of fats. But those are good fats, the ones that can boost your health, and the high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol), which in fact can help you lose weight.
5.Spirulina is a blue-green algae. It is available in tablets and powder form. Spirulina is great if you want to lose weight, for treating cholesterol and diabetes and is rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, niacin, iron and vitamin B.
6.Flaxseeds are the best way to add fatty acids in your food if you're a vegetarian. They contain fibers, antioxidants, and lignans which are similar to estrogen which is why flaxseeds are often recommended to cancer patients. Aside from cancer, flaxseeds reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes, which is why it is one of Australian superfoods.
7.Coconut water is full of electrolytes, which is perfect for feeding hungry muscles post workout. When we exercise, our body sweats and loses a lot of potassium and sodium. By consuming coconut, you can increase potassium and sodium repair. Coconut can also help with heart diseases and according to some scientist, it is a dietary staple.
8. Manuka honey is a product of the bees that pollinate the native bush in New Zealand and Australia called Manuka. It can fight bacteria, helps in inflammation and to quickly reduce the pain. Its compound methylglyoxal (MG), is full of antibacterial qualities and the higher the concentration of the MG, the higher the quality of Manuka honey and healing properties.
9.Bee pollen is a rich source of protein. It is considered one of the most nourishing Australian superfoods. It is full of amino-acids and enzymes and helps in losing weight, treating allergies (not recommended for those allergic to pollen), aids in digestive system, supports cardiovascular system and boost the immune system. It can be found in a tablet or granular form.
10.Royal jelly is the treasure of youth, beauty, and health. It comes in a liquid form and is of white colour. Royal jelly is full of natural hormones and B vitamins, also 17 amino acids, cystine, arginine, and lysine which are essential for tissue growth and regeneration. It can help in the function of the endocrine system, muscular system and supports the organs to keep you young.
